Youth Programs


Group classes are a great way for children to make new friends while learning a new sport. At Lasker Rink Skating School, we have hands on coaches who focus on skating technique as well as fundamental learning games to teach proper skating skills. Each Learn to Skate class meets for 30 minutes of instruction. Practice time is availabler after each class. To make progress in the program, practice time is strongly encouraged. Class size ranges from a min. of 4 to a max. of 10 depending on level. 
   
Lasker Rink Skating School will start classes November 2nd and will run through March 13, 2013.

  • Parent and Tot
    • One of our most popular programs last season, these classes emphasize fun while acquainting young children with the ice and developing coordination. An adult skater must accompany each child in this class. Tots who can move and get up on their own on the ice should register for Snow Plow Sam.

  • Pre-Hockey
    • This class is a pre requisite into Intro to Hockey offered to new skaters ages 4 and up.
      This class will focus on proper technique at the most fundamental level
      working on forward and backward skating, turns and more.

  • Snowplow Sam
    • Young children will be introduced to ice skating through this unique curriculum developed specifically to help young beginners develop preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on skates.

  • Basic Skills 1-2
    • Children of any level ages 7+ can sign up for Basic Skills. There are 8 different levels that follow the U.S. Figure Skating Curriculum. Levels 1-2 will teach the skater how to march, glide, stop and do basic backward skating.

  • Basic Skills 3-6
    • Children ages 7+ who have accomplished levels 1 and 2 may sign up for this class. Children will be split up by difficulty. Levels 3+ will focus on edge quality, forward and backward crossovers, footwork combinations and much, much more.

  • Advanced Class


    • Artistry in Motion/Theatre on Ice Class - This class is for skaters who have passed the Basic 3 level and are looking into learning more about show skating and team work. This class can be taken alongside regular basic skills classes or on its own.

      (this class also includes End of Season show rehearsals)


      Jumps & Spins class - This class is for skaters who have almost completed the Basic Skills curriculum and for skaters who are in beginning freestyle levels. Basic 7+ introduces skaters to beginner jumps and spins as well as more advanced edges and footwork combinations.
